Business-grade connectivity for your consumer SIMs with Hologram SGP.22 eSIMs

Manufacturers of consumer devices rely on eSIM (embedded SIM) technology to provide cellular connectivity. However, many times these devices – tablets, computers, phones, and wearables – are used in business settings that lack the reliability, performance, and coverage needed. That’s exactly why customers are turning to Hologram’s SGP.22 cellular IoT eSIMs.
What exactly is an SPG.22 eSIM?
Before we dig into how Hologram’s eSIM technology works, let’s review some key terms.
SGP.22 is a method of delivering eSIM profiles to consumer devices.. For a deeper dive into the different technical specifications, check out our webinar on Cellular IoT SIMs vs. Consumer SIMs.
An eSIM is an embedded SIM, meaning the SIM hardware is permanently soldered in the device and is non-removable. An eSIM stores a connectivity profile which is an electronic record containing the authentication parameters for activating the eSIM, and defines the modem's path to the internet.
During provisioning, the eSIM uses the SGP.22 spec to download a profile from a server and then uses it to authenticate the line of service for the device.
Hologram eSIMs deliver business-grade connectivity for consumer devices
Huge fleets of consumer devices in the market are being used for business purposes - tablets, PC, wearables, and more. Connectivity-wise, consumer eSIMs embedded in devices generally work well for typical business use. However, only having access to one carrier can fall short in several areas: coverage for connectivity gaps, business-competitive pricing and the tools needed to efficiently manage a large fleet of devices across multiple platforms.
By using Hologram eSIM offering, customers get access to SGP.22 profiles from Hologram to use their consumer devices with embedded SIMs. Using SGP.22 eSIM profiles from Hologram delivers connectivity and a wide range of business benefits for organizations looking to leverage their Consumer eSIMs.
- Control and performance. Using Hologram eSIM profiles enables you to simplify and elevate your connectivity across your devices and operations. With the Hologram connectivity, your SGP.22 devices can gain access to all benefits of Hologram’s cellular IoT service – global coverage (190+ countries), access more than one carrier, and roaming (550+ networks) without changing any hardware.
- Simplified management. Hologram enables you to consolidate connectivity. You can manage fleets and multiple carriers through a single, intuitive Hologram Dashboard for operations anywhere across the globe. This eliminates logging into different carrier systems to manage your devices and enables you to have precise information about every eSIM.
- Competitive pricing. Hologram offers flexible data plans (flat fee or pay as you go), competitive data rates, and volume discounts to help you get the best cellular rates possible.
- Easy activation. By scanning a QR code or deploying at scale via enterprise mobile device management (MDM), you can download the eSIM profile, access Hologram connectivity, and manage fleets through the single, intuitive Hologram Dashboard.
Your hardware, our connectivity
Let’s see how this all comes together in two customer stories in different stages of their growth.
Established healthcare services provider
- In hundreds of offices across the country, the company's medical teams use consumer eSIM-equipped laptops as part of their patient care. Connectivity coverage is weak in many locations, leading to inconsistent patient experiences and frustrated staff.
- Naturally, they were nervous about switching providers - downtime would affect patient care and impact revenue. But with their current SIMs, they were tied to one provider.
- By moving to Hologram’s SGP.22 eSIM profiles, since there’s no physical product involved, their enterprise Mobile Device Management (MDM) software can pull the new eSIM profiles from Hologram and provide it to all the devices used by their teams.
- With plans for geographic expansion, now they can leverage multiple native carriers and manage all their eSIMs profiles through a single Hologram Dashboard, eliminating the need to juggle between carriers at the enterprise level.
Logistics start-up
- This start-up needed to get to market quickly and purchased consumer tablets with consumer-grade connectivity. With the devices in use in warehouses, distribution centers, and in-transit, they were worried the devices wouldn’t perform with the consistency and coverage they needed for their business requirements.
- Their IT team had installed MDM software on each device to control the amount of data usage. With MDM in place, they were able to activate the new devices with the Hologram SGP.22 eSIM profiles to get the business-grade connectivity they needed.
- With multi-carrier redundancy (550+ carriers worldwide and multiple networks in every country and low latency (as low as 50ms), Hologram is delivering the level of service they need to be competitive and grow.
What’s next?
With the new SGP.32 eSIM specification approaching, Hologram customers are well positioned whether they are using Hologram Hyper SIMs, Hologram eSIMs, or our SGP.22 eSIM profiles. Since we are carrier-agnostic, the Hologram Dashboard provides visibility and management of your entire device fleet. We understand the complexity of managing multiple carrier portals, and even sub-portals depending on device specifications.
Whatever specification, whatever carrier, it’s all under one portal with Hologram. So, as standards evolve, your change management is minimized and fleet management is simplified.
